VADUZ, Liechtenstein, 30 March 2021 – A recent research study published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (March 2021) assessed the clinical efficacy and the effects on the Candida albicans growth of OlivaFix Gold® in edentulous individuals wearing complete dentures. The collaborative study was performed by researchers from 4 Dentistry faculties: the Complutense University of Madrid, Spain; the Catholic Portugese University of Viseu, Portugal; the University of Porto, Portugal and the University of Bern, Switzerland. In this study, 23 denture wearing participants evaluated both OlivaFix Gold® and Kukident Pro from Proctor & Gamble over a two week period. Vaseline was used as a control. All products were blind tested and in addition, each denture adhesive (and control) was evaluated for its growth inhibition capacity of Candida albicans in vitro for 2, 5 and 7 days.

The authors concluded that OlivaFix® Gold, due to the presence of 35% organic olive oil, had a significantly better effectiveness in terms of holding time compared to Kukident Pro. In addition, OlivaFix® Gold had a substantially higher effect on inhibiting growth of Candida albicans, a fungi responsible for denture stomatitis, in particular on days 5 and 7, due to the antimicrobial features of the olive oil presence in its formula.
